JACKSON, Wyo. — This Friday, June 23, the Jackson Hole Writers Conference (JHWC) will hold one of its only free events, “Invoking Our Muses: Poetry Conversation and Readings.”
The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Center for the Arts.
The program was initially created by Laurie Kutchins and will be co-hosted by Kutchins and Matt Daly, both resident poetry faculty for the Conference.
The evening of reading and conversation will focus on individual approaches to the writing process for both residents who write poetry and those who are interested in hearing writers talk about their creative process.
“There are ample possibilities for making [poetry].”
Matt Daly
“How we really envision the event is it’s about people who love the art form of poetry and are curious about how it gets made,” Daly says. “Oftentimes, the process of actually making work people read is kind of invisible, but it’s varied and interesting. In some ways, there is a hope to demythologize how writers make things. It’s inviting in that there’s no right way to do it. There are ample possibilities for making it.”
Faculty poets will also include Chris La Tray, Steve Coughlin and Kate Northrup.
