JACKSON, Wyo. — Despite serious wind gusts on Wednesday, firefighters battling the Fish Creek and Pack Trail fires reported minimal fire growth, according to an update by Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) on Thursday, Oct. 3.

BTNF reports that the Fish Creek Fire grew by 290 acres (putting it at 25,371 acres total) and the Pack Trail Fire grew by 915 acres (now 18,774 acres total) on Wednesday. Aerial resources focused on problem areas in the southeast and northwest corners of the Fish Creek Fire. Thursday’s plan is to continue working to confine the fire south of US26, bolstering protection for buildings in the area.

Total personnel on the pair of fires now tops 350. BTNF reports that the Fish Creek Fire is 95% contained and the Pack Trail Fire is 0% contained. Thursday’s weather forecast suggests dry, cooler conditions with lighter winds. The western half of the state falls under a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service through the beginning of the weekend. Low humidity coupled with windy conditions places much of Wyoming under Fire Weather Watch.

Teton County Emergency Management posted the following to Facebook on Thursday morning: “We’re getting into a hot, dry and windy period for the next few days. Avoid outdoor burning to get us through this heightened fire-weather pattern.”

A public meeting to discuss the current fire situation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois.
