JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Public Art (JHPA) is seeking submissions for one permanent large-scale mural and eight temporary murals to be unveiled during Old West Days this spring.
The permanent mural will be sponsored by and located at Snake River Brewing and will highlight the beauty of the scenic and wild Snake River, Teton glaciers, and watersheds unique to the Jackson Hole area. This mural will be the cornerstone artwork of an event called Wild Walls, formerly known as Stickum Up, during which local artists have transformed Jackson’s alleys into an open-air gallery from May through September.
New this year, Wild Walls will combine murals with augmented reality features that promote a greater understanding and awareness about local water quality issues. JHPA will work with the artists and eco-partners, including Teton Conservation District and Protect our Waters JH, to provide educational content and proactive solutions that demonstrate how individuals can help to preserve and protect local water quality. By placing profound artworks in iconic public settings, Wild Walls aims to reach broad audiences with conservation messages through public art.
Artists will apply separately to each Call. Full information is available online. JHPA seeks murals that are inspiring, eye-catching, and that add to the beauty of the built environment. The murals will depict how a healthy watershed is connected to a healthy ecosystem to benefit people, plants, animals, and fishes. Artists located in the Snake River Plain states including Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, are invited to apply and the deadline for all submissions is February 17.
There will be an informational brown bag lunch session for local artists on Tuesday, February 4 at noon at the Center for the Arts conference room. Artists can apply to the permanent mural via CaFe at this link; temporary mural submission qualifications can be found on JHPA’s website.
