SMOOT, Wyo. — In a Facebook update on the evening of Thursday, July 24, the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) stated that the Travis Lake Fire is now 100% contained.
The blaze, first reported five days ago, is located in the West Zone of BTNF, east of Travis Lake. According to BTNF Public Affairs Specialist C.J. Adams, the fire is still about 3 acres, and fire crews are working to extinguish interior smoke. He took the opportunity to highlight the swift work completed by the crews.
“The fire was in a very remote and steep area, and it had the potential to get much larger,” Adams told Buckrail. “With the prompt response by fire crews, aerial crews and smoke jumpers, we were able to get in there and contain it quickly.”
The region is still under a high fire danger rating. Adams said BTNF’s indexes are getting close to “very high,” but the overall rating depends on a number of factors. Currently, BTNF has access to firefighting resources, and has been able to get them quickly. Moisture content in plants and lack of precipitation are also taken into account when determining fire danger.
