JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town of Jackson announced on Monday, June 17, that the Town’s Public Works Department is working to address an irrigation pipe failure in the Garaman Park/Hidden Ranch area.
According to the Town of Jackson, the irrigation pipe, known as the “Wort Ditch,” failed last week due to tree root intrusion. This pipe diverts water from Flat Creek through Garaman Park and along the pathway to Northern South Park for irrigation.
“The Public Works team, Ridgeline Excavation and downstream water users have been working to understand the extent of the problem and implement solutions,” Town said in the announcement.
Late last week, the Town’s Public Works team dug up the Wort Ditch behind the bathroom and picnic shelter at Garaman Park, removed the blocked pipes and started using the open ditch as a surface channel and temporary solution to enable water flow to irrigators downstream, according to the Town.
“Water is still not flowing as freely as it should be, and it seems there may be numerous blockages from years of build-up downstream,” Town said.
Town and County teams met over the weekend to assess the problem and work on both short and long-term solutions.
Portions of the Garaman Pathway have been closed intermittently while work has been underway. Construction crews will keep the pathway in Garaman Park open as much as possible, but community members should expect continued closures and possible pathway detours.
The Town of Jackson thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crew work to restore water flow in the area.
