WILSON, Wyo. — Have you seen smoke off near Phillips Ridge today?

Pile burning is currently underway on the Jackson Ranger District of Bridger-Teton National Forest, part of the Teton to Snake Fuels Reduction Project area.

“Smoke will be visible but any impacts to travelers or communities should be short-lived and minimal,” BTNF said this morning.

Approximately 200 piles will be targeted for treatment in the vicinity of Teton Pass today, BTNF said. The overall project is targeting about 1,000 piles over 25 acres.

According to BTNF, the Teton to Snake Fuels Reduction Project aims to decrease the risk of wildfires that could impact communities in the wildland-urban interface specifically, Phillips Ridge, Fish Creek, Teton Village, Wilson, and the Fall Creek Corridor communities.

Local homeowners also have a responsibility to decrease their risk by creating and maintaining defensible space on private property. Treatments, done before a wildfire starts, can provide firefighters the opportunity to minimize or mitigate impacts to private lands.
