JACKSON, Wyo. — This year, Slow Food in the Tetons marks the 15th anniversary of the People’s Market.
The 2024 season will run from June 5 through September 25 every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Center for the Arts lawn.
“The market started off very small as a celebration for and of the People of the Tetons, it was a weekly gathering to celebrate all that we can produce and create as locally as possible,” Cosmic Apple Gardens Vendor Dale Sharkey said via press release.
The market began in the parking lot of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, as a space where locals could gather to support local produce and artisans of the region.
“My best memories include watching Sange from Everest Momo Shack greet every vendor with a huge smile and a hug on the opening market in 2018, a summer when it rained almost every Wednesday and not a single vendor packed up early, warm summer nights on the Snow King hill watching outdoor movies under the stars with 100 others and Kendall from Larks Meadow Farm giving bread to every single market volunteer just to say thank you,” Slow Food in the Tetons Executive Director Scott Steen said in the announcement. “This market has a life of its own, and I think it represents a little slice of what our community could look like at its best.”
According to Slow Foods in the Tetons, the People’s Market has seen tremendous growth since its inception. In 2023, it reported $530,000 in direct-to-consumer sales and featured over 115 local and regional farm, ranch and packaged food vendors, attracting more than 50,000 attendees.
