MOOSE, Wyo. — The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input regarding how to best implement and improve upon visitor use and experience at Colter Bay, an area that sits on the shore of Jackson Lake in the northern end of Grand Teton National Park.
The NPS is at the beginning of a master planning effort to re-establish Colter Bay as a key destination and central location for GTNP visitors, the park said via press release.
“We are asking the public to share their ideas and suggestions for the future planning in Colter Bay, one of the most visited areas in GTNP,” Superintendent of GTNP Chip Jenkins said. “The feedback we receive will be incredibly valuable as we move forward in the planning process.”
According to GTNP, Colter Bay offers many recreational opportunities, including hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, camping and wildlife viewing. Increasing visitation, changing visitor and employee needs and aging infrastructure will be considered in the future planning of Colter Bay, per the announcement. The park will use this feedback to develop alternatives for the Colter Bay Legacy planning effort.
The NPS is offering a virtual meeting to accept feedback and answer questions on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. (MST). To join the meeting, please visit the National Park Service’s Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/colterbaylegacy.
The public is welcome to submit comments until Thursday Jan. 11, 2024 via the PEPC website. Written comments can be mailed to: Grand Teton National Park, Attention: Planning Office – Colter Bay Legacy, P.O. Box 170, Moose, WY 83012. Comments submitted through social media, phone calls or email will not be accepted.
