WILSON, Wyo. — Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation (Parks and Rec) announced on Thursday that the ice rink at Owen Bircher Park has been closed due to warm daytime temperatures affecting the ice conditions.
The rink opened for the season on Friday, Dec. 13. Parks and Rec made the closure call Thursday morning after staff attempted to address warm weather impacts to the ice.
“The slow start to the season and marginal temperatures has impacted the amount of ice staff has been able to create over the last week,” Parks and Rec stated in the announcement. “The thin base and warm temperatures have led to an unsafe rink. Additionally, closing the rink during the day will reduce further impacts and allow our team to get the rink back up for use sooner once temperatures cool off.”
The rink will be closed until further notice, with rink lights remaining off at night. Parks and Rec said its staff will evaluate conditions to determine when it is safe to reopen. Check the Parks and Rec rink information website for more information about other local rinks.
