Out West Fest: 7 films, 2 bands

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Seven wild films. Two wild bands. Out West Fest 4.0 adds collaboration with Jackson Hole Wild and Orijin to bring regional films to the big screen of the Pink Garter Theatre followed by live music from Whippoorwill and Canyon Kids in The Rose on Friday evening.

The short films will explore a range of stories from conservation and wildlife management to adventure sports, all while examining female empowerment and the growing role of female filmmakers in the industry. Local films include The Quiet Force by Hilary Byrne & Sophie Danison, Right to Roam by Wade Dunstan and Alex Yoder, and One Track Mind by Zach Montes. Additional filmmakers include Wendy Weaver, Gianna Savoie, Vanessa Boshoff, Kristin Lane and Jahanara Saleh.

Local folk-rockers Canyon Kids started Out West Fest in 2016 to collaborate with other regional bands. They’ll perform as a duo.

Ft. Collins alt-folk trio Whippoorwill features guitarist/vocalist Alysia Kraft (of Patti Fiasco), banjoist/guitarist/vocalist Staci Foster and drummer/vocalist Tobias Bank. The band’s omission of a bassist really focuses the energy on the story of song with plenty of raw elements to push the needle into rock. This balance of grace and grit recently propelled the band to Treefort Music Festival with a run of shows supporting Horse Feathers on deck.

Out West Fest films run 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Pink Garter Theatre followed by music 9-11 p.m. Friday in the The Rose. Tickets are $10/advance at Tickets.JHFestival.org or $12/door.
