SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney spoke last evening at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute, in Simi Valley California, part of their “A Time For Choosing” speaker series.
Cheney’s speech covered freedom, voting integrity, national security, and non-partisan policy making.
“I’m a conservative republican and I believe deeply in the policies of limited government, of low taxes, of a strong national defense. I believe that the family is at the center of our community and of our lives,” Cheney said.
She also took the opportunity to speak about the Jan.6 commission and former President Donald Trump, saying, “Republicans cannot both be loyal to Donald Trump and loyal to the Constitution.”
She called Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election “a domestic threat.”
Cheney highlighted how Trump “summoned a mob” to the capital, knowing they were armed and incited a riot.
“We must not elect people that are more loyal to themselves or power than they are to the constitution,” Cheney said.
She went on to call out Cassidy Hutchinson for her bravery in testifying before the committee. Hutchinson, an aide to former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows recounted conversations inside the White House leading up to the Jan. 6 insurrection.
“Her superiors, men many years older, a number of them, are hiding behind executive privilege, anonymity and intimidation, but her bravery and patriotism yesterday were awesome to behold.”
“Let me say this to the little girls and the young women watching tonight,” Cheney said. “These days, for the most part, men are running the world and it is really not going that well.”
Cheney did not touch on the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade.
But during the speech, Cheney said, “our rights come from God and not the government.”
