JACKSON, Wyo. — One22 Resource Center awarded $296,839 to 306 community members today in the first of its COVID-19 Financial Relief Awards. The more than 800 total applications received have come in at a rate of nearly 100 per day.
“We know this is the beginning of a long and unfamiliar journey, and that everyone is feeling the strain of this crisis,” said Sharel Lund, executive director of One22. “Especially in this difficult time, it’s heartening to witness the way our community has stepped forward to support this program.”
One22 has received donations from numerous individuals, as well as $350,000 in grants from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole’s Community Emergency Response Fund.
The average award for the first round of applicants was nearly $1,000, with awards ranging from $200 to $2,500. Individuals who receive awards have the ability to choose where the money is directed and can request up to $200 in grocery store or gas gift cards.
“We are currently helping five times as many people as all of last year,” said Lund, “and we expect many more people to seek our help through April, and likely May.”
One22 aims to process all awards within one week and can expedite in special circumstances, which have included safety-related travel expenses, the unique needs of pregnancy and early childhood, and homelessness. These awards are need-based and consider household size and the variety of other resources applicants can access, including unemployment benefits, savings, federal relief, employer, or family support.
“As we prepare for weeks, or months, of need ahead, we are glad to see the resources taking shape both locally and nationally. Our goal is to take these into consideration, along with the high cost of living in our area, and direct funding to the families and individuals who need it most,” said Lund.
One22’s COVID-19 Financial Relief Award application is available online.
Applications can also be picked up and dropped off in a secure drop box at the One22 office at 170 North Glenwood or completed by phone at 307-739-4500. The award program is open to all people who have lost work, and who live or work in Teton County, Wyoming.
