JACKSON, Wyo. — The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole (CFJH) has announced that the 24th annual community fundraiser, Old Bill’s Fun Run, will take place this year on Saturday, September 12 with considerable event modifications due to COVID-19.
To ensure the safety and welfare of the Jackson community, the Community Foundation has re-imagined the “Run Day” component of Old Bill’s, which draws more than 3,500 people to the Town Square every September.
The six-week Old Bill’s Giving Season, which kicks off on August 1, will be the most crucial fundraising effort in the event’s 24-year history. Many local nonprofits are facing severe budget cuts because of COVID-19 and its associated impact on operations.
“Community spirit and generosity are at the heart of Old Bill’s, and while we are modifying the event this year, we are keeping these two vital pieces front and center”, says Laurie Andrews, President of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. “Run Day may look a little different, but we hope that Old Bill’s 2020 will break all past fundraising records and make our community stronger than ever.”
In the four days leading up to “Run Day” from September 8-11, the Community Foundation will highlight participating nonprofits by field of interest with a designated day of celebration.
On Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m., dispersed Old Bill’s gatherings will be held at four designated locations around the valley. At each location, festivities will begin with the National Anthem and banter from infamous Run Day emcees, followed by a celebratory airplane banner flyover.
Afterward, the community is encouraged to independently run/hike/bike/walk the 5k of their choice and Derby Diaper participants are invited to crawl a shorter distance such as five yards. Suggested 5k routes will be provided at oldbills.org.
Individuals may share photos of their Old Bill’s “Run Day” on social media using the hashtags #spreadgenerosityjh and #oldbills2020 or by tagging @cfjacksonhole.
A culminating video featuring photos and video footage submitted from “Run Day” participants will be shared on oldbills.org and on the Community Foundation’s social media channels during the final week of the Giving Season from September 14-18.
The Community Foundation will host an interactive online meeting for local nonprofits on Wednesday, June 17 from 10-10:30 a.m. This session will provide an overview of the modified events, with an opportunity for Q&A with Community Foundation event organizers. The online presentation will be recorded and shared at oldbills.org for anyone unable to attend.
