JACKSON, Wyo. — In honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., Yellowstone National Park (YNP) and Grand Teton National Park (GTNP), as well other National Park Service (NPS) sites, will have free admission on Monday, Jan. 15.
Commonly called Martin Luther King, Jr. Day or MLK Day, the third Monday of January is a federal holiday to honor his life and legacy. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and the greater Civil Rights Movement he influenced are preserved in many national parks and in local communities around the country, according to the NPS.
Jan. 15 will be the first fee free day of the year, and it is also a day of service when hundreds of volunteers participate in service projects at parks across the country.
“The fee-free days provide a great opportunity to visit a new place or an old favorite, especially one of the national parks that normally charge an entrance fee, NPS states on its website.
