Fried Mortadella Sandwich with Chicken Fat Fries

Wilson, WYO – There’s a new hot spot in town, Basecamp.  If you haven’t ventured to Wilson’s new eatery/wineshop/marketplace, scoot on over to sample their goods.

What to know?

It’s your one stop shop for hot sandos, grab and go, bulk foods, fine cheese, and fun, affordable wine.

Who’s who?

On the restaurant side, Brian Laughlin, known for his work as catering chef of Field Rations, is churning out a variety of sandwiches and grab & go items for lunchtime workers, Idaho commuters and Wilson residents alike.  Hot to order items include their excellent burger, a pulled pork sandwich, and do-not-miss fried mortadella sandwich. Not to fret, for the lighter eaters, he offers salads, chia cups and acai bowls in his prepared foods section.

Our in-house sommelier @alleecooper carefully curated our collection (how many gas stations can say that?!)

On the wine side, be sure to consult with Allee Cooper, the shops certified sommelier.

“We’re focussing on the affordable, different, and funkier wines,” says Cooper.  “Wines you won’t find in every other shop in town.”

Her favorite these days? El Petit Cartanta.  A Spanish Trepat from Catalonia.

“It’s spicy, funky, yet incredibly smooth and drinkable,” she says.  At $21 a pop, it’s a great bang for its buck.

And then there’s Jimmy Frasier. A man about town, everyone knows Jimmy, the shop’s General Manager.  With his rudy smile and jovial persona, he’s just the guy you want to inquire about his new project.

“It’s been a lot of work,” says Jimmy, “but we’ve been having so much fun. We’re just doing exactly what we want.”

Like stocking the shelves with Duke’s Mayonnaise, Brooklyn Pickles, and an assortment of fine jams and preserves “for picnickers!”  Not to fret, the old gas-station classics are also still stocked, and the prices have not changed a lick.

What else?

They’re open weekdays, 6am – 9pm, serving food until 6pm.  As for the weekends…well they’re looking for extra hands in the kitchen.  Once they’ve snagged some more eager cooks, they’re hoping to serve dinner as well.

“I’m hoping to do small share style plates,” says Laughlin, “so people can grab a bottle of wine from the wine store and pop it open here to enjoy with their meal.” There’s also a variety of beers on tap, and, of course, four varieties of the Hole special: sloshies.

Fingers crossed, their outdoor seating will be open next week.
