WYOMING — On Sunday, March 21, Sublette County School District #1 Board of Trustees voted to remove the mask mandate from public schools. The decision comes after the state of Wyoming relaxed health orders, allowing the statewide mask order to expire.
According to a Facebook post by Sublette County School District #1, the Board of Trustees moved a motion to eliminate school SMART Start Plans and will follow the minimum guidelines set out by state public health orders.
The motion made an exception for public health orders on masks in schools and lifted those requirements for students, staff, and visitors to the district.
On March 12, Dr. Alexia Harrist, state Health Officer, and state epidemiologist with the Wyoming Department of Health signed a continuation of the health order requiring masks in public schools, child care facilities, colleges, universities, and trade schools. The order is effective March 16 through March 31.
“The Board would also like to make it explicitly clear that this action does not prohibit wearing a mask by anyone who wishes to do so, and the Board expects all students, staff, parents and community members to respect everyone who chooses to do so.” states the Facebook post by the School District.
Public Health Order #4, the statewide order for mask use expired on March 15. The Wyoming Department of Health recommends the continued use of face masks in indoor public places and when common-sense physical distancing cannot be maintained among people who don’t live in the same household.
