JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Authorities for the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) are reminding forest users about a ban on fireworks. Pyrotechnics are never allowed on national forest lands and, despite a relatively soggy start to the season, fireworks are still not okay with the USFS.
“Just because we have had significant moisture this year, it doesn’t mean that one spark couldn’t cause an unwanted wildfire,” said public affairs officer Mary Cernicek. “There are other areas in the west that are already battling significant fires, and warming and drying trends are expected as the summer progresses.”
Possessing or using any kind of fireworks on the Forest is a $225 fine and a mandatory court appearance. Campfires should be completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving any site. Campers and day users should never leave a fire unattended. Prepare for the unexpected by having a water bucket and shovel on hand and ready for use.
Citations will be given for unattended campfires. Fines on the BTNF start at $225.
