Alpine, WYO – A new wildfire the “Fire Trail Fire” or “Flat Fire” was reported today around 1:00pm in Squaw Creek drainage, roughly 5 miles from Alpine, WY. The fire was initaly estimated around 30 acres in size and has grown to over 70 acres. A type 1 helicopter, two fire engines and the Teton Interagency Fire Module are fully suppressing the fire. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered to assist the Forest Service in fighting this fire.

Update 7:38pm:

  • Fire has grown to an estimated 70 acres in size.
  • Fire officials are reporting an ATV rollover as the cause of the fire, no injuries are being reported at this time.
  • Two Canadair CL-415 Superscooper aircraft have been ordered to assist and are expected to scoop water out of the nearby Palisades reservoir.
  • The Greys River Road is open.
  • The Squaw-Murphy creek road is closed.

There are currently no evacuations in order and smoke will be visible in the area.
