STAR VALLEY, Wyo. — Dr. Donald Howser, OB/GYN, FACOG, has joined the Star Valley medical staff, fulfilling a long-term dream and expanding care at Star Valley Health.

Dr. Howser was born in Casper but grew up in Colorado. After 22 years practicing medicine near Dallas, Texas, Howser has relocated to Afton which he calls, “the best place on the planet.”
He will provide obstetrical care, general gynecology, urogynecology (including pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence) and infertility treatment for women. Many procedures will include minimally invasive surgeries using the da Vinci surgical robot.
“Listening to patients is the most important thing,” Dr. Howser said. “The fortunate thing about caring for women is that they have such good observation of their body. If you just listen and let them explain what’s going on, most of the time it will direct you to the diagnosis. I ask open-ended questions, listen to what they say, and take it from there.”
Leaving a busy Texas practice to start over in Wyoming is a bit scary, Dr. Howser admits, but for the past 20 years, he’s been vacationing in the Jackson area and has dreamed of moving to western Wyoming.
“This opportunity with Star Valley Health came across my desk two or three times before I acted on it,” Dr. Howser said. “I finally came for a site visit. We were in Afton for five minutes, and that’s all it took to convince us to make the move.”
Dr. Howser is looking forward to the camping, long-distance hiking, fishing, skiing and snowboarding that he and his family love. “Whatever it is, if we’re outside, that’s what we love to do,” he said.
Dr. Howser earned his BA from the University of Iowa and his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Truman Medical Center/St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
