JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Wilderness Adventures (WA), one of the premiere summer camp programs in the nation, is gearing up and filling up for the summer season. Time is running out to secure a spot for your teen in one of the organization’s many programs throughout the world.
But the big announcement from WA is a bit closer to home. WA’s new owners—Tom and Catherine Holland took over last year—announced an inaugural local program called Base Camp. The new summer camp for ages 6-12 will take place at Snow King Mountain during seven weeklong sessions.
Campers will enjoy all Snow King has to offer, including hiking, arts and crafts, archery, slingshots, nature discovery, field games, mountain life, mini golf, high ropes and, depending on the camper’s age, the alpine slide and mountain coaster.
“We have worked with Snow King for many years to execute certain elements of our trip programs. As our groups explored the town hill this past summer, we thought the setting was a wonderland for childhood adventure, and we went to them to offer our services,” Tom Holland said.
Wilderness Adventures will provide the staffing, programming, and youth development expertise to run the camp. Snow King brings the bells and whistles.
“We were so excited to be approached by an organization like Wilderness Adventures to realize a long-time dream we’ve had to create a top-notch adventure-based summer camp,” said WA’s chief adventure officer Sue Muncaster. “As a local mom, I believe this fills a unique niche in Jackson for both locals and visitors with active kids connected to nature. Getting these kids on our Treetop Adventure, network of trails, and other amenities on a weekly basis nicely rounds out Snow King Mountain’s summer offerings.”
Wilderness Adventures, based in Jackson, has been guiding wilderness travel programs for teens since 1973. The program has grown steadily over the years and today operates domestically in 17 federally designated wilderness areas and 12 national parks from Alaska to Maine and internationally, on six continents.
Base Camp is currently enrolling campers for the summer of 2017. Campers must have completed the first grade to participate. Pricing is based on the number of weeks a camper enrolls, and also the number of participants from a family.
