JACKSON, Wyo. — Summer traffic got you down? A new commuter bike program, The Wheel House Bike Hub, is now open in the Stilson Parking lot.
Wheel House offers free overnight bike parking, e-bike charging and e-bike rentals.
The pilot program is coordinated by Friends of Pathways, Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities and Teton Village Asssociation.
“Most people who live or work in Jackson Hole have experienced being stuck in traffic on Highway 22,” Friends of Pathways Executive Director Katherine Dowson said. “The Wheel House makes it easy for folks to get out of their car, onto a bike, and enjoy their ride to work.”
E-bike rentals are available for a one-week commitment with a fee of $100. Commuters are asked to ride their rented bikes into town each day and drop them off at the E-bikes of Jackson Hole storefront located at 150 Scott Lane, after work they can lock them up back at the Whee House. The option is suited for those working in midtown.
All people who use the free overnight bike parking service are requested to sign up and to provide commuter travel data through an app designed specifically for this project, OpenPATH.
“The goal of the Wheel House is to make it easy for commuters to bike to work and for partner organizations to better understand the energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, time savings and quality of life impact of providing overnight bike parking. This will help improve and inform further programming,” Alicia Cox, Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities.
