JACKSON, Wyo. — Lions and deer and bears, oh my!
A camera trap set on an animal trail on the Bridger-Teton National Forest captured images of the region’s wildlife over several summer months, which National Geographic shared to its Instagram Monday.
The photos are the work of Charlie Hamilton James, a National Geographic photographer and filmmaker. James shared a personal story of his time working on the project, mentioning how he quickly learned that Wyoming is indeed bear country.
“At the time I lived in nearby Jackson Hole, and I’d check the trap every couple of weeks to change the batteries and SD cards—and to see what it had captured,” said James. “On one occasion, I saw that a grizzly bear had passed down the trail within a few hours of me being there. After that, I stopped servicing the camera alone and instead would take my dog and kids with me—they made so much noise that no self-respecting bear would have remained in the area.”
