VICTOR, Idaho — Music on Main continues this Thursday with a concert by Trish Toledo in Victor City Park!
Toledo is the rebirth of a bygone era. The California-based performer has quickly established a name for herself combining traditional R&B and Soul rhythms with contemporary inspirations to produce distinctive and smooth melodies.
Her choruses lean into sentimental lyrics that frequently address themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Toledo’s expressive voice represents the essence of the human experience, celebrating both strength and vulnerability as she pushes the frontiers on a timeless sound.
“People are so happy that I’m reviving this music,” says Toledo. “Bringing it back — so that a new generation gets to hear this.”
Toledo’s debut EP Dedicated to the Ones I Love, Vol. 1 echoes all the gushing and radiant lovelorn emotion of classic Motown hits. Standouts on that first sublime release include “Tell Him” and “Somebody Please.” The tracks have garnered millions of listeners on streaming platforms.
Toledo continues to find more ways to fuse her Motown and soul influences, reviving a ’60s sound for the modern era in singles like “Oldie Kinda Lovin’” and “Thee Only One” (feat. Thee Sinseers).
From Carson, California, a community south of Los Angeles, Toledo was born into an Ecuadorian-Guatemalan family with much older siblings. Their musical tastes — plus the influence of her father, who was a musician — provided her with access to music that existed long before her time. Although the first music she sang was cumbias and ballads, she discovered that it was the timeless pop and soul ballads that she felt most connected to.
“The lyrics were so simple and the performances so raw and clean,” she remembers.
