VICTOR, Idaho – This week, Music on Main is hosting two can’t-miss events: The White Buffalo hits the stage Thursday for Music on Main with Walsy and the Riverdogs, followed by a special Sunday brunch celebrating 60 years of the Valley of the Tetons Library with Hillfolk Noir and John Nemeth.
Thursday: The White Buffalo
This Thursday, powerful and prolific storyteller Jake Smith, aka The White Buffalo, hits the Music on Main stage. The White Buffalo has had prominent song and soundtrack placements in the worlds of TV and film, including the TV series Sons Of Anarchy, This Is Us, Californication, The Punisher, and the films Shelter, Safe Haven and West of Memphis.
Known for dark blues and light Americana-roots-tinged folk, Smith’s baritone voice is easily recognized from the FX original series Sons of Anarchy. The last song in the series finale for SOA, “Come Join The Murder,” earned The White Buffalo his first-ever Emmy-Award Nomination. The Los Angeles Times said, “Smith’s baritone echoes with villains and misfits, drunks, and philistines,” while Classic Rock magazine declared TWB “America’s darkest country/blues export…imagine a blue collar Tom Waits, or Nick Cave pumping gas in a station just off the highway.” Walsy and the Riverdogs open with their brand of Snake River punk-a-billy. This week’s concert is just what the doctor ordered to kick angry August to the curb and enjoy deep summer vibes.
Sunday: Hillfolk Noir and John Nemeth
On Sunday, TVF is hosting a special Sunday brunch at 1 p.m. with Boise’s Hillfolk Noir and John Németh. Toast Music on Main’s neighbor, Valley of the Tetons Library, celebrating six decades with activities, stories and archival images blown up for exhibition in the park.
From the spiral-bound mountains of frontman Travis Ward’s ragged notebooks comes the hard and the tender. Hillfolk Noir can blow the roof off the place, or draw listeners around the fire with their earnest musical narratives of the back alleys, the open range, and the front porch. “If John Steinbeck owned a speakeasy,” said John Doe (X, the Knitters), “Hillfolk Noir would be the house band.”
After being introduced to Junior Wells and Buddy Guy, Németh has pursued blues from Boise to Memphis. His albums Love Me Tonight (2009) and Name The Day (2010) both hit #6 on the Billboard Blues Chart, beginning a long string of Blues Music Award (BMA) nominations, numbering 20 at last count. John has also won two Blues Blast Music Awards: Best New Artist Debut Recording and Sean Costello Rising Star Award.

Considered a summer bucket list item for both sides of the Tetons, Music on Main is generously presented by the Shefter Family Foundation and strives to bring national acts to local audiences free of charge. A suggested $5 donation each week is encouraged by all attendees to keep the concerts donation-based, but most nights, only one in five people give.
