JACKSON HOLE, WYO –The Jackson Hole Moose shook off some post-holiday lethargy to wake up in the third period Friday and down the visiting Colorado Nailers convincingly 7-1. The game was actually much closer than the final score revealed as the hometowners nursed a 1-goal lead while they enjoyed stellar goaltending from Nick Krauss until their offense found some rhythm in the final period, exploding for 5 goals.
Dakota Richardson had a breakout weekend with 3 goals, 5 assists. Previously, in 8 games, he had just 2 points.
Drew Akins (0G, 3A), RJ Majkozak (1G, 1A), AJ Sanders (1G, 1A), Chase Wharton (1G, 1A), and Alex Dewitz (1G, 1A) all had a multi-point night Friday.
The Moose grabbed two quick goals in the first period Saturday but let the Nailers crawl back into it.
Colorado threw everything at the Moose for the final 30 minutes. Will Murphy was good when he had to be when his mates had trouble clearing the zone, but a late game 2-man advantage proved too much for the Moose who yielded a game-tying goal in the final seconds of regulation. Colorado’s goal to make it 5-5 came on the power play and their goalie pulled for an extra skater.
Richardson and Akins again powered the Moose offense but it was Tom Hartnett who potted the game winning goal in the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime. The high-scoring forward played defense due to injuries and absences on the blueline. The Nailers failed to account for him after a scramble in front of their goal left a juicy rebound for Hartnett who did not miss, scoring his second goal of the night and capping a 6-5 OT win for the Moose.
Park City comes to town next weekend to face Jackson Hole on January 11-12.
