Moose host St. Nicks from NYC looking to get back to winning

JACKSON, Wyo. – The Jackson Hole Moose will try to get back in the win column this weekend as they host the New York St. Nicks.

The visiting team is typically a conglomeration of NYC-based hockey players that jump at the chance to spend a weekend skiing and playing hockey in Jackson Hole. What they lack in team unity they make up for in individual skill.

With the largest metro area in the U.S. to draw from, the St. Nicks always bring a team loaded with talent. New York did not make the trip last season but in 2017-18, the St. Nicks beat Jackson twice by 4-3 and 6-3 scores.

Coach Howie Carruth will again have to juggle lines as top scorer Drew Akins remains out of the lineup for concussion protocol. That means Jason Reese and Dakota Richardson will flank center AJ Sanders at the wings. The second line is solid with Jake Leitner-Alex Dewitz-Tom Hartnett.

The Moose will also be without steady defenseman Nate Goss-Woliner, who is out due to illness. Nick Krauss (coming off a foot injury) is back in goal.

“They’re a skilled team,” Carruth said of New York. “Not as big as the Titans but fast. We’ll throw a little 1-3-1 trap at ‘em and see if we can’t force some turnovers. We’ve got to stay out of the box, though.”

The Moose surrendered 3 power-play goals in a 6-0 loss to Texas last Saturday.

Jackson Hole comes into the weekend with a 10-4 record looking for its first win over New York since the 2016-17 season. The Moose have dropped three straight to the St. Nicks.
