JACKSON, Wyo. — A small fire broke out in the alleyway between the Wort Hotel and the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Crews from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS were still on the scene as of 12:35 p.m., according to the agency. Sources on the scene suggested it looked like an electrical fire. The situation appeared to be contained by 12:45 p.m.
Acting Battalion Chief Lizzie Watson spoke with Buckrail after the fire was contained, and shared that it was indeed an electrical fire. An unidentified cable was hanging down and sparking in the alleyway, leading to flames two to three inches in height. Fire/EMS used four extinguishers, and eventually gained entry to the business that allowed access to the power shut-off. The fire never reached the building, and no one was harmed. Representatives from Lower Valley Electric, Spectrum and the Jackson Police Department were also on the scene.

Smoke from the fire was visible on Broadway.

Watson said her team had dealt with an additional electrical fire in town on the previous evening. A power outage and subsequent return led to ceiling-high flames in a residential electrical panel, which was handled with a home fire extinguisher.
These two electrical fires within 24 hours serve as a reminder to keep a fire extinguisher in the home, and to check it for viability at least once per year.
