JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Everyone over thirty-five remembers Men at Work’s quirky 80’s hits “Down Under” and “Who Can it Be Now?” but what happen to the Aussie band beyond their prime? They disbanded in 2002 and singer/guitarist/frontman Colin Hay resurrected the band’s repertoire with a band of L.A. musicians this year. They’ll take stage at the Center Theater this Tuesday.
Touring in support of his 13th solo release, the self-produced Fierce Mercy (2017), Hay had spent much of last year touring with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, and now lives in Santa Monica. His voice falls somewhere between Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins with a soulful rasp. Beyond the Men at Work songlist, the Scottish-Australian performs songs from his various solo albums and utilizes a palette of strings, horns, pop songcraft, and flourishes of Americana.
