Mary Chapin Carpenter plus UK Americana Artist of the Year Mary Chapin Carpenter Ashes and Roses Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – She was a coffeehouse singer-songwriter in the ‘80s before having a commercial country breakthrough album in 1992 with Come on Come on, followed by a return to her folk roots in the last decade. Mary Chapin Carpenter is an eleven-time Grammy-nominated songwriter and will be bringing her rich narratives to the Center Theater stage tonight.

Over the course of thirteen studio albums and four compilation albums, Carpenter is a graceful, accessible writer that brings to mind Leonard Cohen. On her 2018 release Sometimes Just the Sky, she cohesively reinterprets old songs from each of her albums with an updated, stripped down production style. Celebrating thirty years as a recording artist, Carpenter will be accompanied by Jon Carroll on piano, Johnny Duke on guitars and mandolin, and Nate Barnes on drums.

Of particular note is the opening act—UK Americana Artist of the Year, Emily Barker. Barker is obviously influenced by Carpenter and even covers one of her songs, though is deeply rooted in blues and soul as evidenced on her well-received record, Sweet Kind of Blue.

Mary Chapin Carpenter with guest Emily Barker, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Center Theater. This show is sold out, though there is a waitlist available at JHCenterForTheArts.org. Tickets are $66-$81.
