JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The US Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) will host its five-day annual Collegiate National Championships from March 12-16, 2019 at Snow King Mountain. The event is presented by the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board.
Over 500 competitors will compete for National collegiate titles in alpine, nordic, snowboard, and freeski events overlooking the town of Jackson.
USCSA is the only ski and snowboard league where colleges and universities compete and qualify for post-season competition as a team. This emphasis on team performance is a departure from the typical individual or world cup scoring format often found in skiing. Allowing entire teams to qualify for the USCSA Collegiate National Championships also allows for a greater number of competitors to attend the event, with over 200 alpine athletes, 200 freeski and snowboard athletes, and 100 nordic athletes competing this week at Snow King Mountain.
“I am looking forward to my first National Championships as the new executive director,” said Alec Tandara-Khuns, ED of USCSA. “This event is a major part of the draw for our organization, bringing together the very best teams from across the country. I feel lucky working with such a dedicated team of individuals to produce such a high caliber event.”
Teams representing over 70 universities are expected to attend the 2019 USCSA Collegiate National Championships. This includes 42 alpine teams that qualified through their regional championships, as well as perennial snowboard, freeski, and nordic powerhouses like Westminster College (Snowboard), the University of Wyoming (Nordic), Sierra Nevada College (Alpine, Snowboard, Freeski), St. Olaf College (Alpine, Nordic), and the University of Virginia (Snowboard).
Brian Krill, Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club executive director, said, “We are excited to host this event to show our own athletes how many opportunities there are to ski or snowboard in college, but also to promote and support USCSA and this high-level collegiate competition. We feel this event is a real boost for Jackson as a whole.”
Some 70 hours of action are scheduled for broadcast on the USCSA Broadcast Network.
Snow King Resort, the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club and Snow King Mountain are partnering to host the event. Additional event partners include Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Patagonia, Outdoor Master, Stillwest Brewery & Grill, Reliable Racing and National Promotions & Fulfillment.
