JACKSON, Wyo. — JH Activate hosted a rally today, Oct. 2 on the Jackson Town Square in support of reproductive rights. Across the country, more than 600 marches were also held, with the largest rally expected in Washington, D.C.
The event was held from 10-11:30 a.m. with participants marching from the Home Ranch Parking lot, down Gill Ave. towards the Rec Center, south onto Willow and then west on Broadway to the Town Square.
At the Square, participants gathered to listen to three speakers, Maggie Hunt of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Caitlin Shea from the Wyoming non-profit Chelsea’s Fund and Dr. Katie Noyes.
Dr. Noyes discussed her experience testifying in front of the Wyoming Legislature and urged others to testify.
“We do need to be scared about the Wyoming Legislature,” Noyes said. “There is a small number of people who are making dramatic decisions.”
Noyes also shared pieces of data, “One in four U.S women will have an abortion in their lifetime,” she said. “We need to trust women to make their own decisions,” Noyes said.
Chelsea’s Fund provides information about abortion providers relevant to Wyoming residents and offers financial assistance to those who would otherwise not be able to afford an abortion. The non-profit serves about 200 people per year, Shea said.
Community members of all ages turned out for the event, including Teton County Representative Mike Yin.
After the speakers concluded, participants marched around the square and congregated at the corner of Broadway and Cache.
