RIVERTON, Wyo. — A Riverton police officer fatally shot a man outside of a Walmart in Riverton, Wyoming on Saturday.
The Associated Press reported the man was carrying a knife and attacked the officer.
The Northern Arapahoe Business Council released a statement identifying the man as a Northern Arapaho Tribal member. “Our prayers are with the family and loved ones of the tribal member,” the statement said.
No other details, including the man’s name, have been released.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is helping the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Riverton Police Department with the investigation, according to County 10. Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen said in a statement that “such incidents are complicated and investigated by multiple agencies.” It will take more than a month “at the earliest” for an inquest. Until then, no further information will be released.
