JACKSON, Wyo. — Board of Teton County Commission Char Natalia Macker has been selected as one of 15 leaders from across the country to join the NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a selective national network of state and local elected officials with Honorary Co-Chairs U.S. Senator Mark Warner and former Governor Jack Markell.
Members of the 165-plus-person network have been chosen from among more than 1,500 nominations over its eight-year history. Each member is chosen for their commitment to enact pro-economic growth and progressive solutions in a diverse array of communities.
“While much of the political world is focused on the balance of power in D.C., we must also remember the tremendous impact that innovative state and local officials have on enacting policies that meet the demands of a changing world and expand opportunity for all,” said Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and former Delaware Governor Jack Markell, Honorary Co-Chairs of NewDEAL. “Supporting the rising leaders in the NewDEAL has never been more important. We look forward to promoting the work of County Commission Chairwoman Macker and giving her the opportunity to learn from other leaders as she joins a network with a proven track record of governing successfully in diverse communities.”
Since taking office, Macker has advocated for water quality protections, launched an early childhood education initiative, and expanded transit in support of ecosystem stewardship. She was selected to join NewDEAL in part because of these initiatives to make Teton County a “thriving place to work, live, and raise a family, as well as her passionate service around improving opportunities for women and girls,” according to a press release from NewDEAL. She serves as a Wyoming delegate to Vision2020, a national coalition of individuals and organizations working together for women’s economic, political, and social equality in the United States, and on the Wyoming Council for Women’s Issues.
“As we continue to build on our progress with health-in-all-policies, affordable housing, and childcare in Teton County, I look forward to sharing the lessons we have learned and hearing from other leaders who are setting the standard for effective governance,” said Macker. “I’m excited to be a part of this new class and to work with them on NewDEAL’s efforts to expand opportunity in communities nationwide, including lending support to Wyoming’s efforts to diversify our economy.”
