UNITED STATES β€” Former President Donald J. Trump has launched his third run for presidential office.

β€œIn order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said in a speech last night at Mar-a-Lago.

Before Trump had even left the White House in 2021 he had teased plans of a potential comeback.

On the heels of last week’s midterm elections, the Associated Press reports that he had hoped to gain momentum off expected Republican gains and stave off potential challengers, but is instead facing blame for the party’s underwhelming performance, with many seeing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a rising alternative.

Wyoming’s Senator Lummis is one of those seeing more promise in DeSantis.

When asked by Politico if she’d endorse Trump in a new presidential campaign, Lummis said she no longer views Trump as the leader of the GOP.

β€œI don’t think that’s the right question,” said Lummis. β€œI think the question is: Who is the current leader of the Republican Party?…It’s Ron DeSantis.”

If Trump is ultimately successful, he would be just the second president in U.S. history to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
