JACKSON, Wyo. — For anyone wondering what it’s like to drive an all-electric vehicle (EV), Lower Valley Energy (LVE), in collaboration with Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities, Energy Conservation Works and Teton Conservation District, is offering the “EV Experience,” a one to three-day experience driving an all-electric Chevy Bolt for free.

Any member of the Lower Valley Energy cooperative (anyone who pays a power bill to LVE) is eligible to borrow the car for as little as half an hour or as long as three days. The program will run through May.

The EV Experience is in its third year and according to LVE Communications Manager Brian Tanabe, “It has been a tremendously successful educational program about electric vehicle technology.”

According to LVE, the program provides education and awareness about the growing EV industry. Dealerships in Jackson and surrounding areas seldom have electric vehicles on the lot available for test drives. This program was developed to provide access to those interested in testing an electric vehicle.

Here is a list of the program requirements:

  • Must be a member of Lower Valley Energy.
  • Members must be over 25 years old with a current, valid driver’s license. A copy will be required for LVE records upon scheduling.
  • Members must possess current, valid auto insurance. A copy is also required for LVE records.
  • Agreement must be signed, and all Terms and Conditions must be met.
  • Pick up anytime during business hours on scheduled day (three-day slot)
  • Drop off any time before noon on scheduled day (three-day slot)
  • No others can operate the EV besides those approved by LVE.
  • EV will be returned in the same condition as received, including charge level (three-day slot). All members are encouraged to charge the vehicle while not using it to keep adequate charge levels up.
  • Completed pre and post survey of the EV Experience.
