JACKSON, Wyo. — The Silver Dollar Bar’s fourth edition of “Live Streaming Sessions” will feature songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Greg Creamer this Friday from his PureLand Recording Studio in Driggs. Creamer is a member of Chanman Roots Band and Boondocks, and fronts the band Dirt Road, which also includes Ben Winship on bass, Ted Wells on pedal steel/banjo, and drummer Ed Domer.
From folk to zydeco, Americana and New Orleans roots music, Creamer’s solo career has dabbled in what underscores a desire to examine the essence of a good song. Primarily an acoustic and electric guitarist, the go-to sideman will also have an octave mandolin during the upcoming thirty-minute set. Creamer has a particularly commanding sense of rhythm, and getting beyond the fretting of stringed instruments is how he’s been spending some of his creative hours in recent weeks.
“I’ve been looking up a lot of drummers lately and they’re practice routines,” said Creamer, who is also working on a solo album. “And that led me to a eye-opening rabbit hole with The Police, just the many facets of their dynamics as a band.”
One of his guitars is a Gibson acoustic, earned from winning the 2001 Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival Flatpicking Contest. The instrument is a testament to his dexterity and skill as an instrumentalist, though in recent years he’s been more focused towards writing and singing his own material. That doesn’t stop him from still digging into some of his favorite guitarists.
“Jumping down the New Orleans track, Sonny Landreth is just an incredible musician and songwriter not to mention the greatest living slide guitar innovator,” Creamer said. “John Scofield is another mind-blowing player of whom I’m influenced by, but not necessarily what I
For Creamer, streaming via Facebook will be a first-time experience and he’s been working through the technical details to get setup for the stream. Beyond this event, he hasn’t had much of a Facebook presence, doesn’t have an account, and generally steers away from social media.
“I’m never aware of it, really, so it’ll be a little strange,” he admitted. “Friends have threatened to open a Facebook account in my name.”
“Live Streaming Sessions” presents Greg Creamer at 7:30-8 p.m. Friday from the Silver Dollar Bar and Grill’s Facebook page. A virtual tip jar will be an option for viewers to support the artist. The next Session will feature Mike and Kate Swanson of Coyote Queen on April 28.
