ALTA, Wyo. — Leland Christensen is fighting complications COVID-19 and has been hospitalized since December 19, family members said in a gofundme created by his son Hunter.

The former state senator and county commissioner from Alta was admitted to a local hospital Dec. 19, transferred to a regional hospital on Christmas Eve, and admitted to the ICU Dec. 29, where he remains. He is currently battling pneumonia, but his recovery is complicated by cancer and chemotherapy, the gofundme says.

“Leland’s battle has been intense so far, but he has been making baby steps of progress,” Christensen’s son wrote. “The doctors have told us that due to the chemo complications, it is going to be a long road to recovery.”

The gofundme has raised more than $40,000 for medical and travel expenses as of Jan. 25. Christensen’s family is also asking for prayers.

“We know that many of you have asked whether there is something specific you could pray for,” Hunter wrote in an update Jan. 23. “Please pray that he will continue to be stable and build on the progress he has made so far.”
