CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The motion to instate a special legislative session to overturn Gov. Mark Gordon’s vetoes fizzled out on Sunday evening, with lawmakers voting against reconvening.
The Wyoming Freedom Caucus had rallied right-wing politicians to revisit Gordon’s vetoes on bills pertaining to gun-free zones, property taxes and abortion restrictions. It came to a vote last week; majority votes would have been necessary in both the House and the Senate to go forward with the session.
Ultimately, the vote failed in the House, with 35 voting no to 27 voting “aye,” according to WyoFile. The Senate narrowly voted in favor of the special session, 16 to 15.
A number of Gordon’s vetoes came down to amendments made to bills during the legislative session. He also signed what he called a “conservative” budget.
