YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) is closing the books on another winter season.
Friday, March 15, is the final day for oversnow travel in the park, and the last day to access the West, South and East entrances and all remaining groomed roads.
To prepare for the upcoming visitor season, YNP said its staff has begun plowing operations to clear packed ice and snow from approximately 250 miles of parks roads and parking lots.
Most visitor services started winding down for the season at the beginning of March.
The roads between the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana (via Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley) are open year-round.
YNP previously announced that it was aiming for a spring opening date of April 19. In today’s announcement, the park noted that the first sections of road to open to vehicles is expected to include Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful and the West Entrance Road.
This is also the last weekend to enjoy snow grooming in Grand Teton National Park.
