From Laramie to the Cavs and Browns, Pokes athletes headed for Cleveland?
WYOMING – It’s beginning to look like Wyoming is the pipeline for professional athletes in Cleveland. Mull that thought over for a moment.
Cleveland sports pages heralded the return of a hometown boy when Larry Nance Jr. was traded from the LA Lakers to the Cleveland Cavaliers last week. For Nance Jr. it was a return to the team that his father played for during the 1990s. Nance Jr was drafted by the Lakers in 2015 after spending four years in Wyoming.
For Wyoming Cowboy fans, it may signal the first of two star UW athletes that will soon sport a 44114/5 zip code. Nance Jr. has already started receiving his fan letters at the “Q” (Quicken Loans Arena) in downtown Cleveland. Will he soon be joined by Pokes QB Josh Allen?
Allen is thought by many experts to be the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft on April 26. The Cleveland Browns own the number one pick. Allen fans may soon trade in their brown and gold for, well, brown.
And two of the biggest name stars to leave UW in the past decade could be collecting a paycheck in Cleveland, Ohio.
