KELLY, Wyo. — Kelly Elementary kindergartener Isabell Dragoo got a royal ride to school this morning.
Dragoo got to ride in a firetruck with Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Chief Brady Hansen as a reward for creating the best emergency escape plan in her class.
Dragoo said today has already been the “best day ever.”
“I like how they picked me up from my house,” she said.
Dragoo crafted an emergency escape plan for her and her family in October for Fire and Injury Prevention Month. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS partnered with TCSD to provide every kindergarten student with a classroom lesson in fire and injury prevention.
“Our partnership with our local fire department is a critical aspect for student safety,” said KES principal Kelly Matthews.
This year, the lesson came with a challenge: kindergarteners were invited to create their own escape plan. It was a competition designed to engage families in emergency planning.
“By having a plan and practicing that plan, everyone knows what to do in a fire and is prepared to escape quickly and safely,” said Fire Inspector Bobbi Clauson.
Dragoo came up with the best plan according to a panel of JH Fire/EMS chiefs. They said it best encompassed the safety features for a personal and home emergency escape plan.
“Isabell’s map was a fantastic model of how to escape in her home in case of a fire,” Matthews said.
Her arrival at KES this morning was met with roaring applause and support. Her classmates especially loved seeing the firetruck pull up to their school.
