Kauf opens FIS season with fourth-place finish

ALTA, Wyo. Local skier Jaelin Kauf logged her first finish of the 2019/20 World Cup season Saturday in Ruka, Finland.

The U.S. Olympian and valley native placed fourth at the FIS opener behind France’s Perrine Laffont, newcomer Anri Kawamura from Japan, and Australia’s Britteny Cox, who finished first, second, and third respectively.

The weekend marked the 100th start in World Cup history and Kauf’s fourth season competing in tour action. She is returning from a second-place finish in last year’s FIS World Cup women’s moguls.

Of Saturday’s race, US Ski and Snowboard race recap states Kauf “dominated the middle section with her speed but came short of the podium when she straddled a mogul during her run.”

The current FIS campaign continues over the coming weekend at Thaiwoo China where, in 2018, Kauf claimed back-to-back wins in moguls and dual moguls events.
