JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Bird and Nature Club will host an evening of identifying the birds that are hardy enough to spend their winter in our valley. Join Susan Marsh and Bernie McHugh as they share observations of the birds, mammals, amphibians, and other critters that roam this area, and talk about how the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) works and its importance to bird conservation.

Every December thousands of birders all over the Americas spread out during a two-week period to take “snapshots” of the birds in their area in the largest and oldest citizen science project in the world. In Jackson Hole last year, 55 counters spent 95 hours counting over 2500 individual birds of 51 species.

This year the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) takes place on Saturday, December 21. Bird-lovers of all ages are encouraged to sign up and join the club for a fun morning in the field.

Jackson Hole Bird & Nature Club presents “Is that a Black-capped or a Mountain Chickadee?” on Tuesday, December 10, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Teton County Library. The event is free and open to the public.
