TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Teton Gravity Research will celebrate the world premiere of its 31st annual ski film, Actually, It Is Rocket Science, on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village as part of Far Out Fest.
The full-day celebration will bring together TGR athletes, filmmakers, music, and the Jackson Hole community for the world premiere of the newest chapter in TGR’s more than three-decade study of skiing. The event will culminate with the world premiere of Actually, It Is Rocket Science beneath the Jackson Hole Tram at sundown, followed by an official afterparty at the Mangy Moose.
“Actually, It Is Rocket Science plays with the idea of what is and isn’t when it comes to skiing,” TGR Lead Editor Johnny Seybold said. “It’s a little tongue-in-cheek because we’re not literally building rockets, but there’s a real question underneath it. Some athletes lean into analytics and calculation, while others rely on feel and instinct. And when you consider everything that goes into making a ski film, the parallels start to show. From the mountains to the office, it’s a 12-month, all-hands-on-deck effort where everyone from athletes to interns plays an equally important role, or the mission fails.”
The festivities will feature a special performance by ROME, presented by Sun Cruiser, the musician formerly of Sublime with Rome, bringing live music to Far Out Fest ahead of TGR’s highly anticipated world premiere.
For the 31st year in a row, TGR is donating 100% of net proceeds from Far Out Fest to local non-profits including the Coombs Foundation and Bridger Avalanche Center. The event brings together the TGR community and local residents for a day of music, film, and celebration while supporting a local nonprofit.
Far Out Fest — Sept. 19
2 p.m. — Far Out Fest begins
The celebration kicks off at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on the Village Commons with an afternoon of music, community, and TGR festivities leading into the evening premiere.
3 to 4:30 p.m. — Athlete signing and local music with Chanman Roots Band
Meet TGR athletes at an afternoon signing and enjoy live music from a local band as the Far Out Fest celebration gets underway.
5 p.m. — Family-friendly matinee screening
A special family-friendly screening of Actually, It Is Rocket Science will take place at the Murie Ballroom at Hotel Terra.
6 to 7:30 p.m. — Feature concert with ROME, presented by Sun Cruiser
ROME, formerly of Sublime with Rome, takes the stage for a live performance ahead of the world premiere of Actually, It Is Rocket Science.
8 p.m. — World premiere
TGR’s 31st annual ski film makes its official world premiere under the Jackson Hole Tram. The screening will feature TGR athletes, filmmakers, friends, and members of the Jackson Hole community.

The celebration continues at the Mangy Moose with an official 21+ afterparty.

The film
Actually, It Is Rocket Science is the newest chapter in TGR’s ongoing study of the fall line, told through the world’s best skiers as they turn the mountain into a laboratory and every descent into an experiment.
The study spans Bute Inlet, British Columbia; Haines, Alaska; Japan; Finland; Andorra; Montana; Jay Peak, Vermont; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Different mountains, snowpacks, conditions, and approaches — but the same forces are always at work: speed, gravity, instinct, and consequence.
Actually, It Is Rocket Science is a tongue-in-cheek look at the seemingly reckless abandon that many of the world’s best snow athletes display as they push the physics of what is possible. Athletes explore the intricacies of dissecting a big mountain line, the physics and amplitude of a massive gap, calculating transition, and the force of gravity.
