JACKSON, Wyo. — Observational humor and casual stage banter goes a long way for a performing singer-songwriter. For California folk troubadour John Craigie, this tension-and-release performance style of storytelling and witty lyrics is all about relating to the audience. He cites Bob Dylan and The Band as influences, with the laid back vibe of Jack Johnson, the lyrical prowess of John Prine, and the stage presence of witty songster Todd Snider. (Craigie even has a song, “I Almost Stole Some Weed from Todd Snider). Craigie will perform this Friday at the Center Theater along with guest opener Madeline Hawthorne.
Hawthorne’s style blurs the lines between roots, country and soul. Her former band with her sister, The Hawthorne Roots, has performed locally at the Silver Dollar Showroom. She struck out on her own to release a solo debut, Boots, in 2021.
