TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Ski season is ready to begin in earnest.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) announced Wednesday that its aerial tram will open for the season on Thursday, Dec. 18. The resort noted that “an increase in mountain snowfall and a longer-duration storm on track to fall over the Tetons” led to the decision.
“The snow levels will range from 6,500-7,000 feet (just above the base of JHMR) from late Thursday night through Friday evening, then will dip back down to the valley floor as a cold front arrives at the end of the storm on Friday night,” JHMR said in a statement.
JHMR is anticipating that the current storm cycle will bring more than 4 feet of new snow to the mountains.
It’s been a slow start to the season for JHMR and other area ski hills. All three resorts delayed opening day operations due to lack of snowfall. JHMR has opened lifts and terrain on a steady basis since opening Dec. 4.
