TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — This Saturday, Aug. 7, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) will host its Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb at 8:30 a.m. in Teton Village.
This year, the most demanding hill climb running event in the West will have a little bit if a twist! There will be a change to the course due to maintenance on the Aerial tram. The race will start at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, up the WildFlower Trail to the Rendezvous Lodge, continuing onto the Cirque Trail, and then utilizing the mountain road circle back to the Rendezvous Lodge.
The route is the same for both categories. Aside from the first 3/4 miles, the course is 65% single-track up the Wildflower and Cirque Trails looping back to the Rendezvous Lodge. It is approximately 8 miles, 4,000 vertical foot ascent, and 1,200-foot descent on the mountain road.
This non-profit annual race is run in honor of friend and longtime JHMR Aerial Tram mechanic Chris Onufer (Captain “X”), who on March 7, 2012 tragically passed away in an avalanche. And to keep the spirit of running alive for future generations, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort donates 100% of the proceeds to the trails division of Friends of Pathways, all in the name of Chris Onufer.
Online Registration is still open and ends Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. MST. If space permits, individuals may still register in-person ($50) on Friday, Aug. 6 from 4-6 p.m. during race packet/goodie bag pick up in Teton Village. There will be no registration on the morning of the race.
