JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Coming off last year’s 3A state championship, two things were certain for the Jackson Hole High School Girls track and field team—they would have a tougher go of it moving up to 4A this year, and standout runner Anna Gibson would probably break a record somewhere.
The Lady Broncs acquitted themselves quite well over the weekend with a fourth-place finish at state. Highlights included Gibson’s ridiculous domination of the field in the four events she was entered in. Gibson also set a new state record for the mile.
Seniors led the way with a relay race that was one for the ages. As snow began to fall, the Jackson girls (Emmie Gocke, Sarah Bentlage, Eireann O’Connor, and Anna Gibson) felt right at home with the blast of winter, crushing the field on their way to an easy victory in the 4×800.
Olivia Chapman 3rd in the vault, going 11 feet. Amy Hadley Porter placed 3rd in the 100, 5th in the 200, and was part of the sixth-place 4×400 team that included Sienna Taylor, Kendyl Getsten, and Zoe Curran.
Mary Grace Goettler, Olivia Chapman, and Amber Budge also helped pace the girls track and field team this season.
The boys battled at state as well. Matt Williams, Mac Staryk, Wyatt Sullivan, and Madden Hart led the Broncs state last weekend. Staryk placed in the 1600 and 3200.
