JACKSON, Wyo. — The fall tennis season at Jackson Hole High School wrapped up recently. The Broncs tennis team acquitted themselves quite well under the tutelage of coach Paul Dykeman during a season that almost didn’t happen.

The tennis team had its moments, beginning with the powerhouse duo of George Gervais (Sr.) and Jackson Santamauro (Sr.). The pair enjoyed a scintillating season capped with a state title in doubles after they vanquished Campbell County’s Jefferson Neary and Austin Robertson in the finals 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

Gervais and Santamauro were dominant all year. They carried momentum into the state tournament in Gillette, winning a Round 1 over a team from Cheyenne East. Thunder Basin was next in Round 2. Cody fell to Gervais and Santamauro in the semi’s before the Jackson pair took the state title.

The boys tennis team placed 6th at state’s in Gillette last weekend with 22 points. Kelly Walsh boys won the state title easily with 59 total points over 2nd place Campbell County (36) and Sheridan (34).

For the girls, it was senior Valerie Stevenson who went the furthest in Gillette. The singles player for Jackson cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over junior Patricia Bonnie (Cheyenne South) in Round 1. Round 2 was tougher but Stevenson eventually got past Janessa Derby (Torrington) 7-7 (9-7), 6-1.

Stevenson then lost to Sheridan’s Julie Kutz 3-6, 2-6 in the title round.
