JACKSON, Wyo. — After last weekend’s season opener against Junction City Roller Derby, the Jackson Hole Juggernauts will kick off their home season this Saturday at the Snow King Sports and Event Center against the Portnuef Valley Bruisers.

“We’re super excited about this season,” said Juggernaughts head of marketing Callie Mastrianni (New England Slam Chowder). “All our skaters are putting in a ton of work, on and off the track to make this season happen.”

According to the team’s website, The Jackson Hole Roller Derby League was founded in 2012, after two friends watched a documentary about the sport and wanted to bring it to the valley. Skaters can be spotted training at the local skateparks, and hockey rinks, skating in the national park and organizing their own practices and fundraising events.

“Roller derby is such an exciting sport to watch because you get to see some great roller skating skills and big slams, but there’s so much strategy,” Mastrianni said. “A bout can completely change direction in a matter of a few laps and it’s really high energy from start to finish, which makes it a great spectator sport.”

Doors open for the event at 6:30 p.m. with first whistle at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, and entry is free for kids 12 and under.
